Motorization

Interior or Exterior

You no longer have to pull strings to have control of interior or exterior shades, blinds and draperies.

Whether it is a single window in your kitchen, or a group of multiple window banks in a hotel lobby, or patio shades, we have a motorized solution for your heat and glare control needs.

A tubular motor is inserted into a motor-roller tube housing. The motor, when connected to a power source, turns the tube, which then rolls up the shade material.

110 Volt Hardwired
Category 1. 110 Volt (Hardwired)

110-Volt AC (line voltage) systems. Wiring installed so as to be fixed and permanent is said to be hardwired. A hardwired connection would require the skills of an electrician and could not be removed or changed without an electrician. The motorized shade is designed with preset stops to prevent the shade from rolling too high or too low.

Hard-wired Controls for 110 Volt AC Standard Motors
All 110 Volt AC standard motors have 4 wires (power, 2 directional, and ground). 14/3 or 12/3 wiring is required to connect to switches, relays and controls.

Group Control for 110 Volt AC Standard Motors
  • Relay group controls can be linked together to control any number of motors. With the use of relays one switch can operate 100 shades.
  • Two and three motor relays are an economical way to operate multiple motors with master and individual switching options.
  • A hardwired connection will allow you to use any kind of control system such as Switch, Radio Remote Control, Automatic Controls, including controls that handle more than one shade.

Automatic Controls for 110 Volt AC Standard Motors
A single hard-wired Sun Controller and Timer can be used with group control relays to switch a group of motors automatically.
  • Sun Control
    • Recess mount in double gang box, in white or ivory, includes sun controller with switch override and sun sensor.
  • 24 Hour Timer
    • Recess mount in single gang box, in white or ivory, includes switch override.

Radio Remote Control for 110 Volt AC Standard Motors
  • Radio remote control simplifies wiring by eliminating switch legs.
  • Transmitters (remotes) can be programmed to provide individual and group control.

Radio Remote Control and Wind Sensor for 110 Volt AC Standard Motors
  • Special radio remote control receiver is activated by wind sensor and transmitter.
  • Wind sensor connects to receiver by low voltage wiring.

Category 2. Battery Operation

Interior Use Only

Battery Motorized shades are easy to install, operate and maintain. Now you can enjoy the beauty and functionality of your roller shades at the touch of a button.

The tubular motor is located inside the roller tube.

Electrical Requirements
No wiring required. Battery Operation has a battery pack which is hidden behind the roller and is a cost effective way of motorizing window treatments.

Radio Control Remote
With a 12 volt motor the need to point the transmitter at individual shades is eliminated (works like a garage door opener).

Can operate all shades at once or on individual channels.

Category 3. Radio Remote

No wiring necessary.

A tubular motor is inserted into a motor-roller tube housing. The motor, when connected to a power source, turns the tube, which then rolls up the shade material. A plug-in connection allows you to use an existing three-prong wall-plug receptacle to insert the plug-in motor into the household power supply.

The motor is self-contained with programmable memory and a radio receiver controlled by the remote. The remote has a range of 65 feet, similar to garage door opener.

Wall Switch Operation

All motorized switches are 3-position
Up - Raises shade
Center - Stops movement of shade
Down - Lowers shade downward
and are designed for 110-volt directional motors.

All switches have a 15 amp rating and are UL recognized.

Three-position switches (up/center off/down)
One or two shades can be operated from a single switch. Or with the use of relays one switch can operate 100 shades.

Switches are:
Double Throw (DT) which operate in both directions
Single Pole (SP)(DT) for one shade from one switch
Double Pole (DP) (DT)for two shades from one switch

Switches are available with Momentary or Maintained contact.
Momentary Switches contain a spring which returns it to the off position whenever finger pressure is removed. Momentary Switches require that the switch be held in position throughout the travel of the shade.

Maintained Switches is a fixed-position switch which is set by flipping the switch control lever, and which does not require continual finger pressure to stay in position. Maintained Switches operate the switch and the shade will travel up or down to its limit stops (no stops in between up and down)

Remote Controls

Special Built-in radio remote control motors simplify wiring as the motors can be plugged in to an outlet located near the head of the windows or hardwired directly to the shade. Shades can be operated individually or in groups.

1-Channel Handheld Transmitter - Will allow you to raise or lower one shade, or one group of shades at a time

5-Channel Handheld Transmitter - Will allow you to raise or lower four shades individually or simultaneously, or four groups of shades individually or simultaneously

1-Channel In-Wall Wireless Wall Switch - Will raise or lower one shade, or one group of shades at a time

5-Channel In-Wall Wireless Wall Switch - Will allow you to raise or lower four shades individually or simultaneously, or four groups of shades individually or simultaneously

Automatic Controls

Automatic control can be accomplished using hard-wired switching devices or wireless switching devices such as Sun Control, Wind Control and 24 Hour Timer.

Hardwired Sun Sensor
The automatic controller is also available without the wind control for interior window treatments.

Wireless Wind Sensor
The Wind Sensor monitors wind conditions and tells exterior sunshades to retract when the wind kicks up, providing protection before damage can occur. This simple system can be used with group controls for multiple units. Wind speed thresholds can be set right on the sensor. To lower shades again, a wireless switch must be pressed. Wind sensor comes with 30' plug-in cord. Sensor sends wireless signal to motor. Multiple motors can be programmed to work off one sensor.

Wireless 24-Hour Timer
24-Hour Timer is suitable for use with all control systems for motor operated shades. The 24 hour timer will automatically raise and lower window shades at specific times each day. The timer assures consistent building appearance as shades can be timed to open and close together.

A 24-Hour Timer is an automatic controller that will allow you to preset the times at which a shade, or group of shades, will go up and down. The timer also has a manual switch that can override the preset program. The 24-Hour Timer allows you to pre-set the time your shades will raise and lower according to any schedule you wish. This option gives your home a lived in look, even while away.

Building control allows shades to be operated in concert with lighting, security, heating and air conditioning, or audio-visual system controls.

Seesawusa.com can provide the most seamless integration of your shade controls with your audio-visual system or home security system. The electronics are sophisticated, but the operation is simple.

Benefits of Motorization

  • Ease of Operation - Raising, lowering, and tilting of window coverings all at the touch of a button. Motorization provides maintenance-free operation and helps increase the natural life of window coverings by eliminating the pulling and tugging usually associated with manual coverings.
  • Functionality - Precise operation of window coverings for light management, privacy, visibility and heat gain/loss. Motorizations makes operating window coverings easy, allowing you to take full advantage of these many functions, including greater energy efficiency and increase sun protection for valuables, furnishings, and carpeting.
  • Convenience - Whether home or away, window coverings can operate automatically via use of 24-hour timer or sun-activated controls. Window coverings can be programmed to raise or lower, conveniently providing protection from the sun, privacy, entry of natural light, and security by making a home appear occupied.
  • Control - Individual and group controls, traditional and contemporary wall switches, remote and automatic controls, can be easily interfaced with any centralized home automation system e.g. lighting, security, HVAC, audio/video, and more.

Security

Putting home lighting on timers has long been accepted to deter home intruders.

Motorization allows your home to further the lived in look by putting your shades and blinds on timers so you can raise and lower them during day.
